Paul Davila

Paul was born in Santa Rosa, Ecuador and after he moved to the United States in 1993 he has lived in the Northwest for over 9 years. His hometown Santa Rosa is a coastal community in the province of El Oro that is influenced by the sounds of Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia and other tropical rhythms, but at the same time exposed to sounds with Andean origins found in communities located in the higher terrains of that same province. Paul developed a special taste that blends high speed rhythmic patterns typical of those found in Tropical music with subliminal melodic subtleties that are found in the sounds of Andean music. He has managed to express this blend of sounds through his voice and guitar.
Back in Ecuador he began performing in small folk bands trying to keep people interested in the South American  musical roots that had been under so much influence from foreign music. After moving to USA in 1992, he has performed in a few bands in the Northwest that include “Nosotros” and “Grupo Serenata”, the latter of which was co-founded with David Embleton, in 1996.
He is also one of the founders of Grupo Samay. Besides playing the guitar and singing in the band he has recently become the sole creator of Samay’s first original single called “Soledad” which can be heard in the band’s latest CD “Hecho en Casa” (Homemade).
